Bagos d’Ouro, like Quinta do Pôpa, started with a dream. They dream of a fairer society, of a more balanced, more equitable, and, above all, more inclusive Douro where all children have equal opportunities. Where new generations had an active role in reversing the cycle of poverty and social exclusion through EDUCATION, the “most powerful weapon to change the world.
It is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) of an exclusively private initiative. It was born in 2010 to promote the education of children and youth in the Douro. They live in a situation of economic need as a way of social inclusion in the territory.
With a long-term commitment and a proximity strategy, it develops personalized work with each of the children and young people it supports, following its educational, social, and family path to integration into active life.
It operates in 6 Douro provinces – Alijó, Armamar, Murça, Sabrosa, São João da Pesqueira, and Tabuaço – and develops its activity with more than 200 children and young people and their families, in a total of about 400 people.
